Abstract: The slope mires in the Hunsrück are called „Brücher“ or „Hangbrücher“ and are examplified by the Hangbrücher conservation area near Morbach. Prerequisites for the forming of mires on the slopes of the Hunsrück-Maincrest are the lithologic and petrographic conditions as well as the rainy and cool climate. Corresponding with the water- and nutritive supply as well as with the thickness of the peat layer, plant communities such as transitional mires, “Kleinseggenrieder”, heather and mirewood appear. The marginal areas of these moors are characterized by heather and birch-mirewoods. Here and there spring-meadows and alder-swampwoods appear.
